I was recently approved to write for Bright Hub and so far, it’s been a positive experience.  From what I understand, each channel has a different editor who has different rules and procedures.  My editor, Maria, has been very helpful so far.  I have submitted one article and I am awaiting approval.

I think I’m going to enjoy writing for Bright Hub.  Once I get the process down and figure out what I’m doing.  I like the fact that my editor is down to earth with her suggestions and that the site is very conducive to teaching you about keyword improvement.

I’m interested to know if any of you have any experience with writing for Bright Hub and wondering how it’s going for you.

In the struggling economy, most freelance writers are focused on one thing.  Money.  Not suprisingly, we are working harder and harder each day to make our valuable time strech and bend.

Finding ways to expand your writing is always a good idea.  However, you might be going straight down the road to the city of Burnout if you’re not careful.

When is the last time you actually had fun writing?  If you’ve been stressed about the economy and focued on meeting goals and suviving the crash, it’s probably been a while.

One of the best ways to avoid burnout is to have a little fun each day with your craft.  If you can do it and make money at the same time, even better!

Take some time each day to write about things you enjoy.  There are even several ways that you can make money doing this.  Here are the top 5 ways you can make money while writing about what you enjoy.

5. Post a blog at blogger.  Sure, the adsense income may not be much, but at least you’re not turning out articles like “How to Make a Vaccuum Bra.”  Plus, you can write as much or as little as you like, or even just post photos that make you smile.  I’ve been doing this over at one of my other blogs, Geek Girl Riot.  Posting interesting photos is a nice change to constantly putting things into words.

4. If you are not yet writing at Suite 101 or Helium, you should be.  Suite 101 requires you to fill out an application and send in a resume, so if you aren’t already writing for them, you should probably sign up for Helium.  It’s nice to be able to write about your interests and Helium even accepts short stories and poetry.  Don’t expect to earn a lot of money at Helium.  So far, though, my earnings at Suite 101 have been pretty impressive.  So far this month, my top earner has been “Best Foods for your Halloween Party.”  That was fun to write because last year I had such a great time decorating.

3. If creative writing is your thing, try a few of the questions over at Common Ties.  You can read my post about them here. You might even get a $50.00 check in the mail!

2. Submit a few articles over at eHowI LOVE writing for eHow.  You can submit articles directly to the site.  Earnings vary, but if you have a popular article, you can make a decent amount of money.  eHow is great because the earning potential is astounding.  If you have upwards of 100 articles posted on there, the potential for residual income is wonderful.  Imagine writing fun articles, such as How to Get your Wife to Have Sex with You, and earning money from now til doomsday on it.  I have had a great time writing for this site, because, as you can see if you look through a list of my articles, I get to write about things that are interesting and I can do it in a non-professional, sarcastic tone.  Yay!

1. I have saved this one for last because it is my favorite place to blow off some steam.  I have had a great time writing here and I hope that you will use this opportunity to sign up for an  account.  I have two blogs there.  One is another geek girl blog, only this one is focused more on writing than on photos.  The other one is my Hedonist Adventure blog.  You’ll just have to see it to figure that one out. I love writing for Today, because they pay me a dollar per 100 word post and they even let me have two blogs there and as you can see by viewing my blogs, they have some great templates. Think about it. That’s an extra $60 bucks a month plus page view money.

Thinking, yeah, that’s not enough money to bother?  Consider this:  What could you do with an extra $600 – $800 at at the end of the year?  Take a cruise?  Buy a ton of Christmas presents?  Today pays directly into your paypal account.  My advice is to sign up for the Paypal money market account, send your today earnings there and let it earn interest.  At the end of the year, you can use the money you’ve made talking about day to day bullshit to do whatever fun thing you want.  It’s a win/win situation.

If you do decide to sign up, I’d appreciate it if you’d use the flashy button below.  I get a bonus everytime someone signs up using that link. (and so could you if you’d get your head out of your ass and sign up.)

Write for Today.com.

I LOVE getting mail!  Not email.  Snail mail.  Not bills.  Real mail.  It’s a novelty.

Today I was super excited to get two writing related items in the mail.  The first package I got my free today.com t-shirt. It’s big and comfy and I am such a geek.

The other, even more super exciting package I got in the mail today was  an envolope from Blue Mountain Arts.  They sent my purchase option agreement for a poem I sent to them. I have to sign it and send it back and then it will go into the next step in the process.  Review time.

Reading the purchase option agreement made me happy.  I found out that for poetry purchased for greeting cards, they pay $300.  For the second poem you sell them, it’s $400 and so on until you reach $700 and for any more than that, you get the $700 for each one you sell.

Apart from sending in the agreement tomorrow, I will also be sending in more poetry for them to consider.  It doesn’t cost anything and it can’t hurt to try.

You’ve got to put yourself out there, right?

A couple of weeks ago, I came across a website offering writing opportunities for Blue Mountain Arts greeting cards.  Greeting card writing is something I have always been interested in since I have always enjoyed writing poetry.  I decided that since they take open submissions, I would submit something.  They tell you that you should write your poetry with someone in mind, which is not a problem for me since I am in an absolutely amazing realtionship to a wonderful man that I’m about to marry.

I sent in a poem and received the automatic email saying “we can’t respond to all emails…blah blah blah…if we want to pursue publishing you will receive something by snail mail…”

A couple of days ago I opened my email and was delighted to find a message from the editor at Blue Mountain saying:

Thank you for submitting poetry to Blue Mountain Arts. You will be receiving a publication option agreement in the mail shortly. I want to encourage you to keep writing. Send us more submissions. You write beautifully, and the more poems you submit to us, the better chance you have of getting published.

I cannot tell you how freaking excited I was to get that email.  I undertstand that after I sign off, there will be a review process before they decide for sure to buy the piece, but even getting this far makes me so happy!  I will be submitting more to them as soon as I can.  They pay $50 for pieces that go into an anthology and $300 for pieces that go into greeting cards.

To submit to them, simply send your poetry in an email to editorial@sps.com.

I am delighted to announce that my 17 year old son has decided to be Frank n Furter for Halloween this year. While I’m sure that his Baptist minister father (my ex-husband) would be both mystified and terrified, I’m pretty psyched!

It’s nice when you can pass on a cult classic to your offspring. I haven’t been able to update blogs much this week, as we have been on a never ending search for a garter belt that will fit a 6 foot 1 boy who weighs around 130 and has no ass. If anyone has any ideas, they would be much appreciated.

Ideas from tannys in the greater New Orleans area would be much appreciated, as we are traveling to New Orleans next weekend. Amazon does a costume, but it’s pretty cheesy and I think we can do better, because as everyone knows mothers who resort to actually purchasing a Halloween costume for their child instead of spending countless hours making them one are total failures as parents and should be burned at the stake at the PTA fall fling.

As for me, I’m going to be a cigarette girl.

Maybe I can make a couple extra bucks!

Maria, over at My Work at Home Mom Blog, has recently published an ebook all about how she has become successful writing for eHow.com. She made just at $900.00 last month in residuals alone by writing for eHow.

Fortunately for us, she has written down how she did it and made it available in the form of an ebook called How to Earn Passive Income at eHow.com.  It can be purchased by clicking the following buy now link.  I’ve already heard rave reviews about this ebook and I cannot wait to read it. Buy Now

I know that with her tips, I can increase my earnings at eHow.  Thanks to Maria, I have set some pretty big goals for myself and I know that they are attainable!

Aside from the new layout change (don’t ask!), I have decided to write a book!

A sex book!

My friend Jane and I have decided to write a book entitiled (drum roll, please)….

“How to Get your Wife to Act Like a Porn Star”

(30 days to a sexier marriage)

I can’t wait.  We have already started.  We have a list of 30 concept ideas.  Each of us are taking 15 ideas to write about and then we are going to switch.

I am so freaking excited about this project!

We are planning on self-publishing through Lulu.com and seeing what we can do from there.

I’ll keep everyone posted.

(yay)
