Making Money with Fiverr

24 Jun, 2010  |  Written by  |  under Making Money Online

fiverr, fiverHave you ever heard of Fiverr.com? It’s a really interesting site where you can waste away the hours looking at the different things that folks will offer to do for 5 bucks. Trust me. Hours.

One guy says that he will write your domain name on his arm and wear it around college for a day for $5. Another girl says that she will leave comments on your Facebook page to make people jealous for $5. (well worth it if you are in the market for such a thing, I’m sure)

I decided that instead of spending my time checking out other people’s gigs on Fiverr, I would create my own and see what kind of response I would get. When I was trying to figure out what valuable service I could provide for $5, I knew that it would have to be something that I could do relatively quickly.

I also knew that it would have to be something that I enjoyed and that I looked forward to. It would need to provide value for the customer, too.

I didn’t want to go the article writing route because I do too much of that already. So one gig that I decided on was to send you a copy of my ebook on How to Give a Massage. Since the ebook is already written and sitting on my hard drive..it would be easy. I posted the gig two days ago and haven’t had any response on this one at all. It has only been viewed 7 times. Not much of demand, I would say. Here’s a link if you want to see it.

For the other gig I posted, I decided to find a hole and fill it. Many of you know that my friend and I have just published a book on Amazon. We were busy trying to talk friends and family members into reviewing it for us. The more reviews you have, the more Amazon will push your book. So for my gig, I decided to offer to write a book review on Amazon.

I checked the terms of use on Amazon and found out that this is a no no. The only thing you are supposed to receive in return for a book review is a copy of the book, so I had to revise my idea.

I decided to create a book review blog and post the reviews there in addition to Amazon. This way, I am charging for posting the book review for my blog and you get the Amazon review for free. Here’s the gig. And if you’re interested, here’s the blog.

I know what you’re thinking. It can’t possibly be worth your time to read an entire book for only $5. Here’s the thing. I am a really fast reader. Really fast. So I can read these books – since they are self-published, most of the are on the shorter side, and leave a nice review. The listing has been up for 2 days and I have already done two of them. If I could do one a day for a month that would be an extra $100 at the end of the month. – And that’s only if I do it Monday through Friday.

Also, since I post the reviews on my own blog, I include Amazon affiliate links to the books along with adsense. So, potentially, I could make a little more money off these reviews.

Have any of you tried Fiverr? What was your experience?

What would you do for 5 bucks??

UPDATE: As of today, July 12, Fiverr has done away with the earnings withdrawal level of $40. Now, once your funds have cleared, you may withdraw them anytime you like..even if it’s only a few bucks.

UPDATE: I now have a blog which shows you the ins and outs of how to make money with fiverr. <—-Click right there.

I think fiverr’s a real fun site. Some of the things on offer there I’m tempted to order just to see the results. I’m sure a friend or family member’s going to end up with a cartoon version of themselves before too long, courtesy of fiverr.

I love the idea about reviewing the self published books. I know a lot of people are clubbing together now just to do that. But, a lot of self published authors would jump at the chance. Definitely a good business model, and one that I think would also be successful outside fiverr if you could get it advertised.

I’m having a lot of fun with the site, too. I’ve actually made a couple of orders myself for backlinking purposes. If this keeps up, I’m going to have to make money on Fiverr so that I will have more money to spend on Fiverr!

How do you withdraw your earned income from Fiverr — now that the $40 limit has been removed? There is no large WITHDRAW button like there was previously. Under sales balance, I see my total amount available to withdraw — but where the heck is the WITHDRAW button? Grrrr!

Can you explain how you withdraw income from Fiverr?

You should be able to go under “My Gigs” at the top and click on “Sales Balance”. Once your sales have cleared, at the top right of that window will be a button that says “Withdraw the $X you’ve earned”. The button is white so it’s kind of unclear that you can click on it.

Fiverr is good place to earn some quick money, and now the rule has updated that any amount can be withdrawn :)

Hi, I just want to share this website with you as well. Homegiggers is offering the same services as fiverr. I have been looking for websites such as those because I want to earn money while having a full time job.
I have been working online myself for two years now and have been making my living through getting offers or projects from different people. I started out with odesk and other similar sites that you have mentioned and employers there paid really well. People just have to be patient and not resort to those “get rich quick schemes” because they are nothing but rubbish.

    Fiverr is great :-)

I’ve been making some decent money there, though I don’t go to there for my main source of income. Affiliate marketing is still number one :-)

But I think it’s too bad that we need to wait for 2 weeks to withdraw the money, which is not actually $4, but about $3.90 per order after fees.

I’ve been reading about Fiverr the past couple of weeks. A friend just linked me this decent dofollow gig: http://fiverr.com/aty2010/create-over-150-dofollow-blog-comment-links-from-sites-including-pr1-pr2-and-pr3-urls .. I got a couple pointing at a recent article I put up, very nice dofollow links with a report
