Before I leave for Bonnaroo tomorrow, I wanted to let you guys in on a little secret that I use to get more traffic to my sites and articles. It’s more than a secret tip, it’s actually a process that’s been working quite well for me lately. It has helped me quite a bit with my Squidoo lenses and online articles.
The first thing I do is decide on the topic I want to write about. Then I go to PLR Article Directory and find a PLR article that is about the same topic. I copy it into a blank document and then I rewrite it sentence by sentence.
Next I do some keyword research to decide what the title and targeted keywords will be. I use the Google Adwords tool for this.
Here’s an example:
Today I decided to write an article for website I contribute to (and make residual income from) about weddings so that I could use links to point back to my wedding website and wedding squidoo lens. (I promote a variety of products on these sites, so it’s really about making money on down the road.)
I went to the PLR Directory website and began looking for wedding related articles that I could rewrite. Also, if you don’t want to do the rewriting yourself, I highly recommend using Human Rewriter. They have excellent service, the articles come out great and they are cheap! I came across one about wedding gifts that was about 400 words long that looked like it would be easy to rewrite, so I opened a new document and rewrote it in about 10 minutes.
Then I went to the Google Adwords keyword tool and entered in wedding gifts to find a good term for my title and main keyword. I like to select the “exact search” option so that I can get a realisitic idea of how many searches are actually being made for this term. I saw a lot of interesting terms, but I was looking for one that had a good number of searches and that I thought I could rank on the first page of google with.
After trying a couple of differnt terms, I decided that I could do well with the keyword “engagement gift ideas”. It has around 5,400 exact searches per month, but how did I know that I could probably make it to the first page of google with this term?
The answer is that I use a plugin for firefox called SEO for Firefox. It is free and easy to download and install. I simply to to “tools” in my browser, and then options and then I turn it on. Then I begin to search for phrases in google.
The first thing I noticed about “engagement gift ideas” was that it only returned about 9,100 search results when I searched for it in quotes. This is a very good sign. Anything under 10,000 is going to be pretty easy to rank for.
Next I turned on my SEO for Firefox tool and checked the page rank for the top ten google results. What I found was that even though the first two results had page ranks of 5 and 6, the remainder of the ten had page ranks which were very low – 0 to 3. This lets me know that with a few backlinks and the right web address, I could probably get my article on to the first page.
The more my articles are read, the more traffic will go to my sites and Squidoo lenses.
Then I simply went back to my article and titled it with my keyword, insuring that the keyword would be a part of the web addresss. Then I made sure that my keyword was used two other times in the article and I published it.
There you go. My super secret method.
I’ll let you know where the engagement gift article ranks when it goes live and gets ranked.
P.S. I dare you to try to beat me at my own game with this keyword!
P.S.S. I’ll be camping for 6 days with 80,000 other hippies, so don’t get your panties in a wad if I can’t answer your questions or approve your comments right away.
UPDATE: I checked the article this morning (it only went live last night) and it’s number 7 on page ONE of google! WoooHoo!!!
UPDATE AGAIN: As of today 7-22-09, the article is at position 2 on page one of google! It works!

It is possible to tell, this
exception to the rules

I disagree, no exception to the rules here at all–but you can’t just plop your article on Hubpages or Squidoo and be done with it. Pimping that article is part of the game. Brilliantly illustrated here, I might add. Nice work, GreenNinja!

So true…there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes with article marketing! Thanks!

Oh, just one more thing–a WARNING. Those PLR articles with info on Adsense? DANGER.
I had a look at some of those and not only is there crappy, outdated information in them, but also ADVICE which if you implement it actually VIOLATES your Adsense TOS and can get you banned for life.
I am talking specifically about the advice that says you should float images above your adsense ads. I’ve read more than one “article” telling schmucks to do this. Google WILL suspend you forever once they catch you.
PLR may be free, but sometimes you get what you pay for.

This is called plagiarism. Taking credit for someone else’s work. It is illegal and disgusting that you are promoting it.

You must have missed the part where I talked about rewriting the article. I am not taking someone else’s work and putting my name on it. I am rewriting it into my own article.

Also, PLR means you are free to do with it as you like.
